Debate Mate holds virtual clubs to build self-confidence, critical-thinking and communication skills in children.

Young Lawyers Course: Introduced to the core principles of law and how these operate in the real world, different pathways into law and given the chance to connect with legal professionals. The course will culminate in an interactive and exciting mock trial, giving children the chance to put their newfound skills and knowledge to good use, all whilst working with their cohort of fellow young lawyers.
Young Women’s Leadership Course: Creating a safe space for young women to speak and explore current and topical issues. Whilst supported by the expertise of our world-class team of mentors, they will gain not only the skills but the confidence to speak up and speak out. The week will culminate in a final challenge, which will see our cohort of future leaders put their skills into practice to consider how they can themselves empower and inspire young women in a Women’s Takeover Challenge.
The Big Philosophical Questions Course: Children will be introduced to key philosophical questions, ways of thinking and dilemmas. They will sharpen their analytical skills, tackling topics including identity, morality, equality, metaphysics and logic. Through a mix of discussions, real-life case studies and independent research, they will explore and develop their own opinions and learn how to respectfully challenge others.
Mini CEOs Course: Children will take part in hands-on, scenario-based learning and team-building activities to help develop these key skills. They will think creatively and critically about what it means to be a great leader and a team player and how to persuasively get their point across. By the end of the course, students will work together to create and pitch a product, putting all their skills into practice.
Skills to Succeed Course: Children will build on the skills critical to success: leadership, teamwork and communication. They will be given the chance to critically appraise what it means to be a great leader and team player, as well as key elements of successful, engaging and persuasive communication. The course will culminate in an exciting business-based challenge, in which students will put their skills into practice by working as part of a team to create and pitch a product to a team of judges.
