ISLA RICO – MCR Indie-Pop Trio Release: “Naranjá” || + confirm Deaf Institute Show
Swiftly following the instant endorphin-boosting hit of “Maliblues”, the band are back with an injection of Vitamin C ripe and ready to carry you through to Summer ‘24.
Infusing the neon-filtered Indie-Pop of The 1975 via the slick R’n’B stylistics of 00s era Justin Timberlake, new single “Naranjá” – from the Spanish word meaning ‘orange fruit’ – is a cocktail of revitalising sounds and tropical wordplay that arrives like a holiday in your head.
Said to mirror the laid-back ethos of the band and their desire to transport their fans away from the drudgery of day-to-day to Britain to that personal idea of paradise we all dream of escaping to – whatever it may be – Isla Rico explain:
“It’s a concept, a place in your mind, it’s what you crave. I’ve always thought of it as the orange glow on your eyes when you close them in the sun. And that feeling and wanting to rush and soak it in. to someone else “Naranja” will be something different and that’s its beauty… The song journeys through the grind of life and the scenarios and escapes you utilise, until the time you can escape and get your “Naranjá”.”
The new track is second from the dynamic indie-pop trio in recent weeks, with both “Naranjá” and the vibey lead single “Maliblues” due to feature on Isla Rico’s highly anticipated debut EP: ‘Eternal Optimist’, which arrives on 3 November.

Pushing the limits of indie music through a shared love of pop, Isla Rico first formed in a homemade tiki bar in Manchester. Bringing a unique mix of imagination combined with a contagious, carefree attitude to their music, the trio aim to transport listeners from their real lives toward a brighter place filled with good tunes and vibes.
Priding themselves on their live show and compelling stage presence, the three-piece turn up the heat in front of a live audience and bring arena-esque shows to every performance. Following a fun-filled summer packed with festivals including The Great Escape and Y Not?, 2023 has already proven to be a whirlwind year for the trio.
Readying their very first EP ‘Eternal Optimist’ for release on 3 November 2023, Isla Rico will be playing a handful of live shows across their native Northwest this Autumn, including a special EP release gig on the day of their EP’s release. Hosted at Warrington’s Pyramid Basement, the launch show also has the option for a VIP upgrade which will include a Q&A, EP playback and photo opportunity. Tickets for that are here
