IRC Watchlist 2023 – The top 10 crises the world can’t ignore in 2023, Catriona Murdoch – International Starvation Human Rights Specialist
Following the release of the International Rescue Committee’s annual Watchlist, which lists Syria, Yemen, Ethiopia in the top 10 countries of highest concern in 2023, I would like to offer expert commentary from international human rights lawyer and starvation specialist, Catriona Murdoch, who has led recent investigations and legal submissions into conflict-related famine in all of Syria, Yemen and Ethiopia.
The Watchlist calls out “insularity” and “inward-lookingness of too many of the wealthiest parts of the world” which is “leaving too many of the poorest parts of the world having to fend for themselves in a way that they’re unable to do.”
I can organise interviews/comment from Catriona Murdoch, Head of the Starvation Portfolio at international human rights law firm, Global Rights Compliance, who will be able to speak on:
How wealthy nations, including the UK, US, France, Germany, Canada and others can adopt a holistic approach to easing the effects of famine for civilians in conflict-affected nations, who make up the majority of the IRC’s list
The measures wealthy nations can take to help millions suffering and dying from conflict-induced hunger
The reasons and effect of conflict-related famine, which is affecting an estimated 20 million people in Ethiopia alone
