How challenger start-ups are disrupting monopolies during COVID-19
As news comes that cinema giant Cineworld will be closing hundreds of sites, and masses of other household brands are making similar sacrifices, it appears that nimble start-ups could find that now is an unprecedented time to appeal to UK investors. The UK’s top talent is now taking this opportunity to launch themselves into the world of start-ups; challenger brands such as Lupe Technology, a British vacuum cleaner start-up created by two former Dyson engineers, are now able to provide UK investors with an alternative to these failing monopolies and disrupt the current landscape.
Devised by two former-Dyson research and development engineers, Pablo Montero – an aeronautical engineer – and Lucas Horne – an industrial designer, the Lupe Pure Cordless is the first vacuum designed from the ground up to be long-lasting, fully serviceable and kinder to the planet whilst delivering best in class performance. By using clever design, more durable materials and over half a decade of research and development, the Lupe Pure Cordless aims to change the way consumers think about consumables.
Over the past six years, the Lupe team, led by founders and Pablo and Lucas, have tested and designed the Pure Cordless to be everything the cordless vacuum should be: lightweight, manoeuvrable, long-lasting and powerful. After a series of record raises, Lupe Technology have created an appliance featuring nearly double the useful suction of the leading market competitor, with outstanding performance of a one hour run time and 100% deep down dirt removal too.
Bringing these elements together has created a game changing product that is kinder to the planet with long service life; the Pure Cordless was designed with sustainability at its very core, instantly imposing a new challenge to the established heavyweights within home appliances.
Pablo Montero, co-founder of Lupe, commented on the launch: “The Pure Cordless is the domestic appliance designed not just to shake-up the vacuum market but the entire home technology arena. We have strived to make a product as reliable and long-lasting as possible and hope consumers understand our mission to make technology stand the test of time. We want to help keep appliances out of landfill and perform as well as they did on day one for longer.”
Lucas Horne, co-founder of Lupe, commented: “When designing the Pure Cordless, we had two core values; class-leading performance and longevity. The launch today represents the realisation of this and six years of hard work to make the best possible cordless vacuum available today while thinking about our environmental footprint. This is a product that has been designed to change our attitudes towards consumable electronics and home appliances. “
