Horrifying New Images Re-Imagine The Smiles Of Bridgerton With Historically Accurate Teeth Ahead Of Season 2 Premiere
The wait for fans is almost over, as Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton is set to return to our screens this Friday, March 25th. And while the second season is expected to be just as scandalous and steamy as last time, have you ever wondered what the show could look like with a little more historical realism?
If you have, you’re not alone, at least when it comes to characters’ impeccable dentistry. In fact, there are a number of Reddit threads dedicated to the topic, discussing how TV shows and movies strive for historical accuracy in every aspect from clothing and appearance but then everybody looks like they’ve just returned from a trip to the orthodontist.
Well, for better or worse, you no longer have to wonder. As leading oral care brand Dentek, have released a series of images re-imagining the smiles of Bridgerton in their true Regency Era horror.
As Neil Kotak from Dentek explains, by the early 1800s, when the series is set, refined sugar had made its way from only gracing the tables of aristocrats and monarchs to being readily available across the entire country.
Neil adds: “Just like today, sugar was a big problem for people’s teeth during this time but for most of the 1800s, extraction was the only remedy for tooth decay. Although the first fillings were developed around 1816, the practice was still very much in its infancy, even ten years later and not readily available. Meaning we would expect to see a lot of diseased and discoloured teeth, even among aristocrats like the Bridgerton characters navigating London’s upper society.
“And while ivory dentures were becoming more common than the previous options such as gold or other people’s teeth, they were still incredibly expensive, and ivory is still prone to staining. So we would never expect to see the incredible smiles the characters currently have if this was real life – however it’s not real life. And while I applaud shows that make every effort to reflect life as it truly was during historical periods, I think we can forgive them a white smile or two.”
Bridgerton season 2 will centre around Anthony Bridgerton as he works to untangle his love life and is expected to feature the fan-favourite Pall Mall game captured in the Julia Quinn novels the show is based upon.
And fans needn’t worry that this will be the last they see of the Bridgerton siblings, as creator Van Dusen revealed on Twitter that the show’s third and fourth season has already been greenlit. Although it’s not all good news as Regé-Jean Page is confirmed to not be reprising his role as Simon Bassett, the Duke of Hastings.
