One of Manchester’s longest standing charitable organisations is celebrating its 130 year anniversary this month with a series of celebrations and events to recognise Its continued support of communities in and around the city.

Manchester Settlement was established in Ancoats in 1895 with the intention of bringing education, culture and social support to working-class communities. Evolving over the course of 130 years, it has provided support for hundreds of families becoming the thriving hub of today in Openshaw fostering social connectivity, health and inclusion.

The small diverse team of 40+ staff and volunteers help to deliver interventions across children’s, youth, adult, and asylum seeker services. Manchester Settlement offers not for profit nursery care, youth clubs, unaccompanied young asylum seeker support, wellbeing groups, and more. Its work empowers individuals facing isolation, poverty, and health challenges.

A series of celebrations encompassing some of the organisation’s most vital services are planned including a Youth Club Party, Party for Young Asylum Seekers, Pantry Party, Well Being Wednesday Party and more.

These events will culminate in The Big Birthday Bash on 28th November attended by the Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Tom Stannard as well as local dignitaries. The event will be hosted by the charity’s Chief Executive Adrian Ball.

Adrian says:

‘It has been a privilege to have been at the helm of Manchester Settlement Charity for the last 10 years and we are so looking forward to celebrating such a huge landmark in our history. We often go under the radar but we have been here for 130 years with the express aim of creating stronger communities together and it is the perfect time to showcase not only or rich heritage but also shine a light on the work our brilliant team and volunteers carry out day in and day out within our community”
