Give Your Fitness Routine A Spring Clean: PT Explains How To Freshen Up Your Healthy Habits
If you’ve found yourself in a fitness lull after an initial burst of motivation in the New Year, you’re not alone. After a few months, it’s easy to start struggling with motivation and find yourself battling to keep your healthy habits going.
However, freshening up your fitness and nutrition can be enough to spark motivation and get you back into a routine that you enjoy, so we’ve gathered five top tips from PureGym Personal Trainer Suzy Quinn to help you do just that.
Assess your goals
When was the last time you switched up your routine? If you’re still doing the same exercises and reps as you were when you first started out, you are going to struggle to progress and reach your goals . Take a step back and assess what you want to achieve, do some research around exercises choices, ideal rep ranges etc and then tweak your workouts accordingly.
Check your nutrition
When it comes to reaching your fitness goals, nutrition is just as important as your workouts and it can be easy to get into a rut with our meals. Whether we reach our goals within the gym is heavily dependent on what foods we’re consuming. Do you know how many calories to aim for based on your goal? Do you know how much protein you should be incorporating into your diet? Spend some time reviewing your food choices and maybe try out some new recipes; this way, you can make sure your diet is on track to help you make the best progress.
Try something new
Spring is the perfect time to try something new. Check out a new fitness class, try a new workout style, or even switch up which exercises you do. Injecting your routine with something new can make stale workouts feel exciting, and it gives you something new to master.
Sign up for a challenge
Signing up for a fitness event is a great way to kick your motivation into gear as it gives you a deadline and a goal. Choose something that you feel will challenge you, interest you and also keep you motivated. From running events and intensive obstacle courses, through to charity walks that could help raise money for a good cause – there are plenty of events for you to choose from!
Commit to 30 minutes a day
As the days get warmer and brighter, it’s natural to want to spend more time with friends and family. If spending long sessions at the gym doesn’t fit with your life right now, commit to 30 minutes of moderate activity a day – whether that’s a fitness class with friends, a fast walk in the sunshine, or 30 minutes of lifting weights. It’ll help to maintain your fitness, and there’ll be plenty of days where you feel like going harder or for longer.
Spring is the perfect time of year to take stock and clear out the old, less enjoyable parts of your fitness routine or assess your goals and set a plan to achieve them. To help people get back on track, PureGym has launched a £0 joining fee offer, where new members will also save significantly on their first three months. The offer is available until 11th April.
