From Heartbreak to Healing: The Vet Who Refused to Give Up – Introducing Dr. Stewart Halperin, the Stem Cell Vet

UK – When Dr. Stewart Halperin was a young boy, he faced the heartbreak no dog lover ever wants to endure. His beloved childhood companion, Benji, became listless and unwell. Despite numerous visits to vets, his family was met with a devastating phrase: “There’s nothing more we can do.” That moment of helplessness sparked a lifelong mission.
Today, Dr. Stewart Halperin stands at the forefront of veterinary regenerative medicine in the UK. Founder of Stem Cell Vet, Dr. Halperin has dedicated his career to ensuring that pet owners no longer have to hear those painful words.

Driven by compassion and armed with cutting-edge science, Stewart became one of the first vets in the world to perform Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Transplants in dogs suffering from arthritis back in 2012. His pioneering work in regenerative therapies now gives hope to dogs and their families every single day.

“Benji’s story never left me. I became a vet so no one else would have to feel as powerless as I did,” says Stewart.
A graduate of the prestigious University of Edinburgh in Veterinary Medicine, Stewart went on to complete a highly competitive internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College in Canada. He has worked in referral and emergency clinics across London and later founded the successful Petcare Group before focusing fully on Stem Cell Vet.

Dr. Halperin’s influence goes beyond the clinic. As a former director of the London Veterinary Forum, Stewart advised over 250 practices on innovation and best practice in veterinary care. He is also a respected veterinary author and a familiar voice on BBC Radio, where he regularly discusses pet health, arthritis care, and the benefits of regenerative medicine for animals.

Most recently, Dr. Halperin has published three double-blind, peer-reviewed papers in the journal Companion Animal, exploring the evidence, modes of action, and applications of stem cell therapy in dogs. These groundbreaking studies strengthen the scientific foundation of regenerative treatment and highlight its transformative potential in veterinary medicine. Dr. Halperin hopes this cutting-edge technology may one day be adapted for use in human medicine, opening new doors in the treatment of chronic and degenerative conditions.

With an unwavering commitment to continued learning, Stewart remains at the cutting edge of his field — attending international conferences and training to bring the very best to the animals under his care.
