Food for thought: “I love my kids but not as much as I love my lunch!”
Food is the UK’s most pondered subject according to new research being released just in time for
British Sandwich Week (22nd
to 28th May).
When asked what they think about most in a day, almost three quarters of people surveyed – a whopping 74% – said they think about food each day.
In fact, just how much Brits think about food was demonstrated by it being the top subject on the minds of most daydreaming Brits. It came ahead of ‘children’ in second
place (31%) and ‘appearance’ in third, an answer selected by just one in five respondents.
And perhaps most surprisingly, ‘sex’ was way down in fifth place, with just 16% admitting they had naughty thoughts on the brain more often than any other topic, while
19% spent more time pondering their career than anything else.
Regionally, those in the South East were more likely to think with their stomachs, while Scots are the vainest, with a third of Scottish respondents spending most of their
time considering their appearance (higher than any other region).
Only those in Northern Ireland think about their children and food equally,
both answers being chosen by a third of the population.
Talking of the research, Jim Winship, director of the British Sandwich & Food to Go Association said:
“We’re a nation with strong family values, and we may love our little darlings, but when it comes to what we like to spend our days thinking about, it’s clear that nothing
comes close to food – not even our children!
“According to our research we Brits have food on the brain morning, noon and night. Perhaps it’s down to the huge amount of choice there is within the convenience food
market. There’s such a vibrant array of tasty treats readily available that it’s no wonder our main concern during the day is what we’re next going to fill our tummies with.”
