Extreme heat to wreak havoc for car owners, experts warn
The nation is readying itself for the first heatwave of the year this week, with temperatures in some parts of the country forecast to exceed 25C.
While it comes as good news for sun-starved Brits following one of the coldest Junes on record, for drivers the warm weather could spark disaster for their cars.
According to the experts at IMO Car Wash, soaring temperatures could result in a number of car-related issues, from faded paintwork to overheating and even glass damage.
Justin Hall, Dircetor of Engineering at IMO Car Wash, said: “A spell of warm weather is exactly what we need after a miserable start to summer, but if you’re a vehicle owner, then it’s important to remember that heat can cause damage to your car.
“Powerful UV rays can cause the pigments in your paintwork to deteriorate, leading to discoloration, while high temperatures can cause your vehicle’s metal components to expand and contract, potentially resulting in warping and misalignment.
“Meanwhile, extended exposure to heat can cause minor cracks in your windshield and windows to expand, which could prove dangerous for unaware drivers.
“But the good news is there are some simple steps that car owners can take to help reduce the risk of damage this summer. Regular washing helps to protect your car’s paint by removing contaminants and adding a protective layer. It also maintains the integrity of metal parts and enhances the durability of glass surfaces.
“It’s not only cosmetic concerns that you should be aware of, with heat also impacting the performance of your car.
“Keeping vents and grills clear of debris is crucial for preventing electrical system failures and ensuring optimal cooling. Regular washing can aid this process by keeping the engine bay free from dust and debris, which is essential in preventing engine overheating.
“Our comprehensive washing services, like Ultra HD, provide additional protection for your vehicle, helping to maintain its overall performance and appearance. Taking these steps can make a significant difference in how well your car withstands the summer heat.”
