Enigmatic rock outlaws and Mercury Prize long-listed act – Evil Blizzard – will return to Manchester in 2027.
Following the release of their acclaimed fifth album ‘Death Songs and Lullabies’, the Preston act will unleash their freakish furore on the audiences of Academy 3 on Saturday 27th February next year.
With fine support from fellow genre breakers Rude Films and Dead Things, it’s a line up that promises to be an outlandish evening, not for the faint of heart…

With multiple bass players (at one point eight of them) and an array of rubber masks that give both children and adults sleepless nights, somehow, against all the odds, Evil Blizzard released their fifth and latest studio album in the Spring of this year.
Summoning the kind of nightmare-inducing noise and visuals that have become the calling cards of the band, ‘Death Songs and Lullabies’, sees Evil Blizzard pushing their boundaries further afield from their early sound of ‘multiple bass psych’. A record that incorporates elements of dub, krautrock and goth to provide a much more Post Punk vibe than previous work, the album is by far the band’s most stylistically varied and challenging album yet and even made the long list of 200 for the Mercury Music Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ 2026.
As well as their trademark ‘multi bass onslaught’, this album sees sequencing, sampling and even the use of string instruments made from bone. With reference points including ‘Metal Box’, ‘Ritual De Lo Habitual’, Can and Discharge (whose singer JJ joins the band on the track ‘Wake The Dead In Bedlam’) as well as the omnipresent Hawkwind, Stooges and Sabbath vibes, ‘Death Songs and Lullabies’ is arguably Evil Blizzard’s most cohesive body of work since their critically acclaimed second album ‘Everybody Come To Church’.
Recorded between September and November 2025 at Rock Hard Studios, Blackpool,
improvised sessions were further edited down into more ‘song’ structures, then reworked into the final pieces. Of the record, Filthydirty of the band reflects:
““[‘Death Songs and Lullabies’] is an album that reflects all our record collections. Lyrically it’s been impossible to not absorb the chaos and anger transmitting on every news channel recently, and while we’d never write specifically about a certain issue or matter, the shitshow that is the 2020’s definitely made its mark on our thinking. Everything’s gone to s**t since Bowie died, hasn’t it? It’s honest, it’s brutal in places and it’s generally pretty ugly. Just like us.”

On the night, Evil Blizzard have enlisted ample support for the occasion in the shape of Rude Films and Dead Things.
The Manchester shoegaze/alt-rock risers Rude Films turned heads with their staggering self-titled debut ‘Rude Films’ earlier this year. A stark, tightly wound statement shaped in the mills and rehearsal rooms of Manchester, it pivoted brooding calm against serrated volume, introspection against brute force and saw them stake themselves firmly as ones to watch. Following a strong run of shows with IST IST and support from BBC Introducing, Rude Films have arrived fully formed, armed with a record heavy on intent and driven by conviction.
Plus, opening up proceedings, Preston scene three-piece Dead Things will deliver a set of their gritty garage rock and pulverising post-punk. With a sound hailed by Louder Than War as “a sucker punch to the gut”, expect featuring fractured riffs, infectious melodies, and thematic songs about chilling tales of old Lancashire folklore, horror and more.
