Elephant Kind share new single ‘Louder’
Elephant Kind are on the kind of journey that few bands ever experience – and the best is yet to come. Back home in Indonesia they were big enough to fill arenas and play shows with the likes of Franz Ferdinand and The xx. But the call of challenging themselves and finding a broader international audience was too much to resist, and so they started again in London as complete unknowns. Almost two years later and they’re firmly in the ascendancy, a rise that continues with today’s release of their new single ‘Louder’.
‘Louder’ is a defining moment for Elephant Kind. Its shimmering alt-pop is rich with luminous synths and a flood of indie exuberance, with the distinctive soulful expression of Bam Mastro’s vocal adding the kind of magnetic allure that helps the band step out from the pack. It’s a song that raises the bar for the band, but in a way that feels like a natural next step from last year’s ‘Super Blue’ EP.
Written solely by Elephant Kind – completed by Bayu Adisapoetra (drums) and Kevin Septanto (bass) – the band’s collaborators on ‘Louder’ further underline their momentum. The track was produced by Iain Berryman (beabadoobee, Wolf Alice, Young Fathers) and was mixed by the Grammy-winning Oli Jacobs (Harry Styles, The 1975, Taylor Swift).
Bam says, “The chorus of ‘Louder’ might make it seem like a part anthem at first glance, but is actually an intimate experience of observing separation from the sidelines and complexities of being caught in the crossfire of separation. We’re ecstatic to announce our latest track, marking our return after a year and a half since our last EP.”
While the odds have been stacked against Elephant Kind since relocating to London in 2022, they’ve battled back with dogged determination. But they’ve been in this position before, making the most of any opportunity they could find en route to becoming one of Indonesia’s biggest bands, and now they’re doing all they can to replicate that success half a world away from home. They documented their first year in the UK with the short film ‘From Indo To England’, an inspirational story which captured the imaginations of supporters including NME, Clash and Dork. Since then, they completed their debut sold-out UK headline tour late last year before recently returning to action with a big reaction at a recent Sofar Sounds show.
Elephant Kind further showcased their powers as a live band with last year’s ‘Live In London’ EP and now have much more to come on the horizon. Their next London headline show comes at The Victoria on June 15th (tickets available HERE) while their summer festival schedule is taking shape with Tramlines, Truck and Y NOT? already confirmed.
