DRAKE’S HIT SONG GETS A HAIRY FACELIFT

Drake’s hit song God’s Plan surpassed one billion views on YouTube earlier this year.

But now the chart topper has unlikely competition – in the shape of a group of schoolboys who have given the lyrics a hairy facelift.

The group – boys at Bedford School – decided to pen their own version of the popular hit and rename it ‘My Tache‘ for a Movember charity fundraiser.

Moreover, they are now hoping their efforts will go viral and may even attract the attention of the Canadian rapper himself.

The video was the handy work of Sixth Formers Olly Dwight, Jack O’Donovan and Matthew Lewis. Olly told us, “Every year the Sixth Formers interested in multimedia put together a bit of a parody film but this year we went all out with one of our favourite songs in an effort to increase awareness and donations for the charity.”

“Drake’s original video for God’s Plan is really emotive and has a strong charity angle because it involves Drake handing out nearly $1 million throughout the city of Miami.

“It seemed like a really good song with a good message that we could play about with – and we had so much fun with it.”

The opening lyrics to the original song include the lines: “I been movin’ calm, don’t start no trouble with me. Tryna keep it peaceful is a struggle for me.”

While the lyrics to the ‘My Tache‘ version change it to, “I’ve been shaving less cos’ that’s no trouble for me. But tryna open up and talk is a struggle for me.”

The boys also change Drake’s chorus of “Bad things. It’s a lot of bad things that they wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ and wishin’ on me.”

The ‘My Tache‘ video features a wealth of highly entertaining footage including the boys in choral gowns, wearing googles in a chemistry lab lit by Bunsen burners and driving around the sports fields in golf buggies – all while singing and rapping along to the parody song.

Jack, who was the creative force behind the video’s story, said, “We wanted a fun and light-hearted approach while having a serious message to the video. It was great to have so many boys involved, from editing to bottle flipping.”

The video includes a number of important messages about men’s health including the fact that one in eight will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime and three in four suicides are men.

The project was part of a wider fundraising challenge which took place at the all-boys boarding and day school to mark Movember, the leading global charity dedicated to changing the face of men’s health.

Head Master of Bedford School James Hodgson said, “We mark November every year with a fundraising drive for this charity and we’ve always been astounded by the boys’ eagerness to raise money and get stuck in.

“It is wonderful to see the boys create a film in their own time and promote it through channels that are familiar to them to encourage the very important message of Movember and I am so proud of them for using their creativity and enthusiasm to produce something so powerful.”

Drake, who has more than 30 million followers on Twitter, is the world’s most consumed musician, with God’s Plan the most streamed song on Spotify last year.

Movember raises funds to deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programmes that enable men to live happier, healthier and longer lives. It has helped fund more than 1,250 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide prevention.

Val Pumfrey, Schools Engagement and Fundraising Lead at Movember, said: “We love seeing the Movember video put together by the boys at Bedford School.

“We really are inspired by their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn about the importance of men’s health as well as encourage crucial donations to our cause.

“They have been a huge part of our campaign for years and are a prime example of what can be achieved during Movember.”
