Director of James Hong’s New GOONIES Meets BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA Film
With the upcoming family adventure film PATSY LEE AND THE KEEPERS OF THE 5 KINGDOMS starring 2023 SAG-winning actor James Hong (EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE) and channeling 1980’s classics like THE GOONIES, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, & DARK CRYSTAL, we would love to arrange an interview with you and Director/Writer/Actor ZACK WARD to share how he created this the jaw-dropping film that doesn’t rely heavily on VFX, opting instead for breathtaking practical effects, special effects makeup, and mind-blowing puppetry. The film just made headlines after a sneak preview Red Carpet event (KTLA Morning Show, Screen Rant, Spectrum News).
Fun Fact: you may recognize Zack Ward as the raccoon hat-wearing bully ‘Scut Farkus’ in the 1983 cult classic film A CHRISTMAS STORY, so he knows what goes into making a family classic with a nod to the 1980s.
Ward cast an unlikely leading man with the legendary James Hong, who just turned 94 years old. Last night, Hong received a SAG Award for his role in EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE and will be at the Academy Awards in March where his film is nominated for Best Picture. With more than 700 acting credits to his name, it’s hard to imagine anyone who has consumed entertainment in the past 7 decades who isn’t a fan of the BLADE RUNNER, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, and KUNG FU PANDA actor. In addition to his Academy Award Nominated Film & storied career, Hong prides himself on being a trailblazing voice for representation, being one of relatively few Asian American and Pacific Islanders to do so in his era.
Helmed by Zack Ward, PATSY LEE draws on the nostalgic power of 1980s family films to tell the story of a grandfather and curio shop owner (James Hong) in a small town in Arizona and his granddaughter (Michelle Mao) who are transported to a mystical land through a portal stone and have to find their way back. The film also stars teens Anna Harr (HOT SEAT), Matthew Sato (Disney Channel’s “Doogie Kamealoha M.D.”), “Saved by the Bell”), and Star Trek legend George Takei.
