Croydon author Aileen Jay brings fun and adventure to storytime with a cat detective.

Join Justin, our fearless cat detective!

He never fails to follow the clues in search of his quarry – food. He’ll do anything and go anywhere to find it – there’s never enough for Justin. He makes some wonderful friends along the way and you’ll want to be with him every step.

A pawfect picture book for ages 5 – 7 with lovely illustrations by Angela Hodgson-Teall, the stories are suitable for reading aloud to children and offer opportunities for parents and children to discuss or comment on how they view the cats’ behaviour.

Aileen Jay trained as an early years teacher after working in theatre and stage management. She is a qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher. She has taught gardening to adults, and runs an allotment for the benefit of local pests and biodiversity. Aileen writes short plays for women, children’s stories and rhymes. She lives in London with her husband, and a cat.

Aileen explains: “Justin was a bumbling cat, with a home of his own, who barged his way, quite literally, through our locked cat flap in search of our food. He was never in any danger of starving and was well-cared for by his owner! Whilst we never deliberately fed him, he became a regular garden and sometimes kitchen feature in our lives, destroying the butter, eating anything he could lay paws on. I began to make up stories about him and gradually a clowder (we’ve never heard of that word, either), or pounce of cats arrived in my mind.

Originally, I wrote the stories to make my husband laugh. We are lucky enough to have talented friends to collaborate with us by illustrating and arranging the graphic design of this quirky book. In the unbiased view of my husband, it has the potential to be a classic. I hope young readers enjoy it!”
