Critically-acclaimed Anthems Women Podcast Series Returns
Following on from the success of the series last year, Broccoli Productions have brought back their flagship podcast series, Anthems Women, which is a collection of 31 original manifestos, speeches, stories, poems and rallying cries written and read by exceptional voices that celebrate and contemplate what it means to be a woman; their beauty, their failures, their rich heritage, their rage and their power.
Each bitesize episode begins with a “word of the day” introduced by each of the individuals that encapsulates the theme of their piece, leaving the listeners with something to carry forward into the day after they’ve heard the work.
Last year Broccoli Productions (formerly Broccoli Content) launched four series of Anthems across International Womens Month, Lockdown, Pride and Black History month and have had an incredible roster of guests including Bernardine Evaristo, Munya Chawawa, Laura Dockrill, Raven Smith, Travis Alabanza, Ruby Tandoh and the women of the Receipts Podcast – Tolly T, Milena and Audrey.
This year’s contributors to Anthems Women include poet & storyteller Sofia Thakur, musical artist Lava La Rue, broadcaster Helen Zaltzman and #OscarsSoWhite creator April Reign. One episode lasting between 5-10 minutes is released every day throughout March, 31 episodes from 31 incredible women.
Broccoli Productions had an exceptional response from both the public and press last year and were featured on Apple’s “Best Podcast of 2020” list amongst others as well as starring on the Gay Times Digital Magazine Cover (the first podcast to do so).
Anthems was created as a purposeful corrective to the predominately white, predominantly male podcasting sphere. Broccoli Productions hopes to build on the success of 2020 while continuing to grow an inclusive and exciting original podcast landscape.
“It feels more important than ever for us to stand together, to stand united in our experiences and our aim by the end is to have created an empowering album of tracks that the listener can return to again and again to feel uplifted, inspired and ultimately not alone. Proving that there is more that binds us together than sets us apart. This is something we are incredibly passionate about as a company.” – Broccoli Productions
In June 2020 Broccoli Productions launched the Equality in Audio Pact , where we challenged our peers within the audio industry to pledge to 5 simple actions that a company of any size should be able to participate in in order to bring us closer to equality. So far, this pledge has been signed by over 200 companies including The BBC, Spotify, Gimlet, The British Podcast Awards, Bauer Media, Luminary and Wondery.
