Charity Supporting Women Backed By Manchester Amazon Team
The Amazon fulfilment centre in Manchester has made a £1,000 donation to a charity supporting women impacted by domestic violence.
The Pankhurst Trust, which brings together Manchester Women’s Aid and The Pankhurst Centre, empowers and inspires women to challenge gender inequality and ensure those suffering from domestic violence can access the support they need.
The charity provides a women’s drop in, welcoming women of all ages and backgrounds, free of charge and on an informal basis, to meet new friends and have fun. The drop in offers wellbeing workshops, talks and discussions in a safe and supportive environment, with a family law advice clinic available bi-weekly, and a shelter and housing benefits adviser available once a month.
The donation from the Amazon Manchester team will go towards funding vital support services for those suffering from domestic violence and abuse, including community outreach programmes, a helpline, the weekly women’s drop in, group work sessions, children’s therapeutic play sessions, refuge spaces, and educational resources.
Ian Jackson, Site Leader at Amazon in Manchester, said:
“Charities like The Pankhurst Trust do important work in our community, and we’re pleased to support the staff and volunteers with this donation. The charity’s services are a lifeline to the women who need them, and we hope our donation will lend a helping hand to continue this great work.”
Rebecca Emmerson, who works at the fulfilment centre in Manchester and nominated the charity for this donation, added:
“I’m really pleased the team at Amazon is supporting The Pankhurst Trust. The work the charity does is so valuable in our community and it’s great to see the efforts of the staff and volunteers recognised with this donation.”
Uzma Ansari, Operations Manager from The Pankhurst Trust, added:
“Thanks to Ian and everyone at Amazon in Manchester for their support. The Pankhurst Trust is made possible by our incredible volunteers, fundraisers and supporters, and donations like this really make a difference. We couldn’t do what we do without the backing of the community.”
The donation to The Pankhurst Trust was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.
Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families in England.
