Bin men at highest risk from workplace COVID – Waste boss calls it “sick” and “unnecessary”

Shocking figures from the Office of National Statistics show that bin men are at the most at risk from the virus, with the most deaths per 100,000 workers.

Mark Hall from national waste collection company BusinessWaste.co.uk said “Currently 699 deaths from the industry have been recorded, which is a rate of 66.3 deaths per 100,000 people. This makes me feel sick to my stomach, it’s ultimately shocking and wholly unnecessary. We must get support from the public to protect our bin men and all key workers immediately.”

BusinessWaste.co.uk calls for the following made into law

All waste to be bagged and not left loose.

Bin lids must be firmly closed.

All bins must be sanitised before being left out for collection.

All waste should be stored for 72hrs before been placed in the bin.

Waste such as tissues, used masks and disposable cleaning cloths should be double bagged.

Government to supply medical-grade PPE for all waste collection staff.

Hall continued” The government have provided no support for the waste collection industry, therefore we must ask the public to go the extra mile and help save your bin mans life”
