New research has revealed that nearly 175,000 searches are made every month for Premier League teams’ merchandise across UK cities, with Arsenal placing second in the popularity ranking.

An analysis of Google search data by online fashion retailer boohooMAN has revealed which Premier League teams’ merchandise dominates demand online.

The biggest search volumes are for Manchester United and Arsenal. With the monthly search demand combined for these top two teams, their interest represents 38% of all monthly searches in the top ten.

A further 27% of demand was revealed to be for Liverpool and Chelsea combined.

The search statistics revealed that Manchester United experienced an average of 29,633 monthly searches in the last year.

Arsenal ranks second with 27,135 average monthly searches, followed by Liverpool in third, which has had an average of 25,009 searches every month relating to the club’s merch over the last 12 months.

The figures for the top three teams combine to total a huge 21% higher than the remaining seven in the top ten combined teams. This demonstrates the continued commercial dominance of the biggest clubs and their strong fan loyalty.

With 15,438 average monthly searches, Chelsea ranks fourth for merchandise interest, and Manchester City places fifth with 11,533 searches. City’s figures represent just 39% of their local rivals United, highlighting the gap in merchandise popularity.

Newcastle United places sixth with 9,583 average monthly searches. The Tyneside club’s black and white merchandise generates more interest than several clubs with stronger places in the League ranking.

Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Leeds United and West Ham United complete the top ten with 8,811, 8,580, 7,705 and 5,826 monthly searches, respectively.
