Amazon Manchester donates £1,000 to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
The Amazon team at the fulfilment centre in Manchester has made a £1,000 donation to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity as part of the company’s global Amazon Goes Gold campaign during September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
Now in its fifth year, #AmazonGoesGold is a global initiative to highlight, support and amplify the incredible work done by many organisations to increase survival rates through life-saving treatments and research.
Each year, Amazon supports and collaborates with childhood cancer organisations across Europe who make it possible for every child affected by cancer to fight for their future. This year’s charity partners include the Starlight Foundation, Together for Short Lives, and the Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group.
The Amazon Manchester team made a £1,000 donation to Royal Manchester Children’s hospital as part of the Amazon Goes Gold campaign. The charity plans to use the money on Ward 86, the hospital’s haematology and oncology ward. The Charity funds a number of different treatment, research and care projects at the children’s hospital to ensure young patients and families receive the highest quality treatment in the highest quality facilities.
Amazon Goes Gold saw the team at Amazon in Manchester hold a month-long series of gold-themed events. The gold theme is in recognition of the international colour for childhood cancer.
One of the events this year was a 48-hour PJammin’ party. The team in Manchester joined colleagues across the UK by wearing pyjamas to work in honour of children who spend every day in their PJs during treatment.
Amazon Manchester General Manager, Darragh Kelly, said: “It’s fantastic to support Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as part of this year’s Amazon Goes Gold campaign and we hope the donation provides a boost to the staff and volunteers who do so much for the children in our community.”
One of the Amazon employees at the fulfilment centre who took part in Amazon Goes Gold is Phil Lamb. He added: “It’s great that Amazon continues to support childhood cancer organisations both here in Manchester and around the world. I loved taking part in the activities at our site and I’m glad we are able to make this donation to such a brilliant charity in our community.”
Rachel Laycock, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity’s Senior Corporate Fundraising Manager, said: “We’ve always had fantastic support from Amazon so we were so pleased when we heard Amazon staff would once again be putting their thinking caps on and coming up with something special in order to fundraise for us.
“This money will make an incredible difference to young patients and their families.”
