35 New Affordable Homes Approved for Eccles
Approval has been granted for 35 new affordable homes in Salford, marking a significant step towards housing accessibility.
The funding for this project has been confirmed after a meeting held on Monday 11 September 2023, where Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett, proudly announced the official disposal of land at St Mary’s Road, Eccles to not-for-profit housing association, ForHousing.
This will see the land transform into a highly anticipated residential development, spanning nine stories and encompassing 35 units, consisting of 33 affordable rental homes and 2 social rental homes.
The ground floor of the newly built premises will also become home to the Salford Foundation. A charity that, for over 30 years, has been dedicated to supporting young people and adults in Salford, Greater Manchester and the wider North West region, by providing individuals with a range of opportunities and resources to help them build brighter futures.
Lead Member for Housing, Property and Regeneration, Councillor Tracy Kelly said: ” With the ongoing cost of living crisis and soaring inflation prices, we understand that more people than ever are now seeking affordable housing.
“We are proud to be working alongside ForHousing to expand the amount of affordable homes available in Salford and to welcome the Salford Foundation to the new premises at St Mary’s Road in Eccles.
“This venture aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing accessible and affordable housing options to our residents.”
Mike Parkin, ForHousing CEO, said: “Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home but we know waiting lists in Salford and across the country are soaring.
“It’s great news that planning approval has been granted on this development. We are proud to be partners with Salford City Council on this project which will provide much-needed quality, affordable homes.
“It’s a step in the right direction towards ensuring everyone in our community has access to quality, affordable housing.”
Addressing the rising need for affordable housing in Salford, this initiative marks a pivotal milestone in meeting the growing demand. Like numerous cities across the UK, Salford has experienced a significant surge in need for affordable housing due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.
This scheme will not only increase the availability of affordable homes but also significantly contribute to the growth and development of the local community. This collaboration between the local authority and ForHousing, is a testament to Salford City Council’s dedication to enhancing the lives of its residents and ensuring sustainable community development
