£130k renovations for war memorials across Stockport
Stockport Council are investing £130,000 to help ensure that our war memorials are in a good condition so that we and future generations can continue to remember those who fought for our freedom, many paying the ultimate sacrifice.
Works are currently taking place, or have already been completed upon memorials in Bramhall, Brinnington, Cheadle, Gatley, Hazel Grove, Reddish, the Heatons and other areas.
The works to conserve and repair the war memorials are being carefully carried out following the recommendations of the War Memorials Trust. This means that a minimal approach has been taken to cleaning the stones, using a gentle steam cleaning system along with other repointing and repair. Depending on the particular stonework, part or minimal cleaning was recommended for certain monuments.
